Shreya's Family Journey Through Kashmir Etched in Time
The dream of visiting Kashmir had lingered in Shreya’s heart for years, but it was Thrillophilia’s efforts that finally turned this dream into reality.
As per Shreya’s feedback, Thrillophilia’s two destination experts - Subhajit Mukherjee and Tushar Das , who had an intricate knowledge of Kashmir’s beauty and culture, guided the family every step of the way. Subhajit’s attention to detail, paired with his passion for ensuring their comfort, made Shreay and her family’s trip seamless.
With Thrillophilia’s well-curated itinerary and an accurate guidance, Shreya, her sister, and their parents set off for the "Paradise on Earth", ready to soak in the magic of Kashmir.
A Shikara Ride for the Soul
Their first evening was spent on the iconic Dal Lake, its glassy surface reflecting the fading sunlight and the surrounding snow-capped peaks. They boarded a shikara, a traditional wooden boat, and glided gently across the water.
The stillness of the lake was broken only by the rhythmic sound of the oar cutting through water. Shreya’s mother sat silently, gazing at the distant mountains, her face serene. Her father, who often carried the weight of responsibility, seemed lighter here, as if the lake had absorbed his worries. Shreya and her sister took countless photos, laughing at their failed attempts to capture the perfect shot.
The quiet moments on Dal Lake were more than scenic—they were restorative, like the family was finding parts of themselves they hadn’t known were missing.
Beauty in Every Leaf
The Bhowmick family also visited Nishat Garden, also known as the Garden of Bliss. Nestled on the eastern side of Dal Lake, the Mughal garden was a masterpiece of symmetry, terraced layers, and cascading fountains. The garden was alive with color—vivid orange and red leaves clung to the branches, giving them a rare chance to experience both autumn and winter in a single visit.
Shreya wandered among the Chinar trees, mesmerized by the golden carpet of fallen leaves. Her sister ran ahead, playfully tossing handfuls of leaves into the air. Their parents watched from a distance, their smiles soft and knowing.
Later, at Badam Wari, the almond trees stood bare but proud, their skeletal branches a reminder of the seasons’ inevitable cycles. It was a humbling moment, walking through the quiet grove and feeling the history of the place seep into their bones.
Valleys That Speak to the Heart
Pahalgam felt like stepping into a fairytale. Surrounded by lush meadows, thick forests, and glistening glaciers, the family found themselves in awe of the natural beauty that unfolded with every turn.
They began with Betaab Valley, named after a Bollywood film shot there. The valley was a riot of greens and whites, where the snow-dusted mountains framed a bubbling river. Shreya couldn’t help but feel small yet infinite at the same time, as though nature itself was whispering secrets only her soul could hear.
Aru Valley was quieter, more intimate, with its gentle slopes and grazing sheep. Here, Shreya’s father shared stories from his youth, tales that brought laughter and a few tears. The warmth of family stories wrapped around them like a blanket in the crisp mountain air.
At Chandanwari, they marveled at the glaciers. The sheer magnificence of the icy landscape made them pause in collective awe. For Shreya, it was a reminder of how vast and powerful the natural world could be, yet it felt deeply personal, like it was inviting her to listen and reflect.
A Winter Wonderland
Sonmarg, the Meadow of Gold, was their next stop. The Thajiwas Glacier stole the show, its icy expanse gleaming under the winter sun. A pony ride took them closer to the glacier, where the crunch of snow underfoot added a tactile memory to their adventure.
Shreya’s mother, who was initially hesitant about the ride, ended up enjoying it the most, her laughter ringing out against the quiet backdrop. Her father snapped candid pictures of his family, determined to capture their joy forever.
The gondola ride in Gulmarg was a highlight of the trip. Rising steadily above the forested slopes, the cable car offered panoramic views of the valley below. Snow blanketed everything, turning the landscape into a pristine wonderland.
At the top, they indulged in snowball fights and clumsy attempts at building a snowman. Shreya’s sister, ever the adventurer, tried her hand at skiing, while the others cheered her on from the sidelines.
The People Who Made It Special
Throughout their journey, it wasn’t just the places that left an impression—it was the people who made them feel at home. The warmth of their stays, the friendly locals who shared stories and smiles, and their driver, Mr. Dar Bilal, who navigated the challenging mountain roads with unmatched skill, all added layers of comfort and ease to the experience.
Mr. Bilal, in particular, stood out. His calm demeanor and deep knowledge of the region made him not just a driver but a guide, a storyteller, and a friend. Shreya admired how effortlessly he handled every twist and turn, ensuring their safety and comfort at all times.
As their trip came to an end, Shreya felt a bittersweet pang. Kashmir had been more than a destination; it had been an emotion, a feeling that would stay with her long after the snow melted and the leaves turned green again.
For Shreya, Kashmir was about her family, the people who mattered most, and the memories they had created together.
