Himanshu’s Magical Meghalaya Adventure with Thrillophilia
The moment we landed in Meghalaya, the clouds seemed to wrap us in a gentle embrace. It was as if the heavens were welcoming us to their abode. My partner and I had been planning this trip for months, and we felt like a dream finally coming true. The air was crisp, the streets were alive with the hum of life, and everything seemed to shimmer with the promise of adventure.
Our first evening was dedicated to unwinding. We checked into a hillside resort that overlooked the misty valleys. The view from our balcony was a masterpiece of greens and blues, and we spent hours sitting there, sipping on tea, and soaking in the tranquility.
It was the perfect start to our romantic escapade, a prelude to the wonders that awaited us in the days to come.
Shillong: A Symphony of Sights and Sounds
The next morning, we set out to explore Shillong, the heart and capital of Meghalaya. Our first stop was the Elephant Falls. The cascading waters, surrounded by lush greenery, were a sight to behold. As we stood there, hand in hand, I couldn’t help but marvel at how nature could be so effortlessly beautiful.
From there, we drove to Mawkdok Dympep Viewpoint. The winding roads leading to the viewpoint were an adventure in themselves, with breathtaking vistas at every turn. At the viewpoint, we were greeted by a panoramic view of the valleys below, shrouded in mist.
Lunch that day was a feast of local flavours at a nearby, cute café. We tried Jadoh, a traditional Khasi dish, and it was a burst of flavours that left us craving more. Shillong had already won our hearts, and we were only getting started.
Cherrapunji: Where Nature Dances
Cherrapunji, the land of rain and wonder, was our next destination. Our first stop was the Mawsmai Caves, a natural marvel of limestone formations. Walking through the narrow passages, lit by natural skylights, felt like an adventure straight out of a movie. The thrill of discovery was matched only by the awe of witnessing nature’s artistry.
Next, we ventured into the Arwah Caves, a quieter yet equally mesmerising experience. The highlight of our day, however, was standing before a majestic waterfall, its roaring waters creating a symphony of nature. The cool mist kissed our faces as we stood there, lost in the moment. It was one of those times when words felt unnecessary, the beauty around us said it all.
To Dreamy Days
No trip to Meghalaya is complete without a visit to Mawlynnong, Asia’s cleanest village. As we walked through its pristine lanes, lined with vibrant flowers and charming bamboo houses, we honestly felt like we had stepped into a fairytale.
The Living Root Bridge was a highlight of our visit. Crossing this natural marvel, created by generations of careful cultivation, was both humbling and exhilarating. Later, we climbed a bamboo skywalk that offered stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The serenity of Mawlynnong touched our souls, and we left with hearts full of gratitude and a promise to return.
One of the most magical experiences of our trip was a visit to Dawki, where the crystal-clear waters of the Umngot River took our breath away. We rented a small boat and glided across the river, marveling at how the boat seemed to float on air. The water was so clear that we could see the riverbed, dotted with colourful pebbles.
A Trip to Remember
Our final day was spent in Shillong, revisiting our favourite spots and indulging in a bit of shopping. We picked up handcrafted souvenirs, each a reminder of the incredible journey we had shared. As we packed our bags that evening, the realisation that our adventure was coming to an end hit us.
Back home, as we settled into our routine, the memories of Meghalaya lingered in the most unexpected ways. The aroma of the tea we had bought from a local market filled our kitchen one morning, instantly transporting us back to the misty hills of Shillong. A photo frame on our living room shelf, holding a picture of us on the boat at Dawki, became a centerpiece of countless conversations with friends and family.
Every corner of our home now whispered tales of waterfalls, caves, and pristine villages. This trip wasn’t just a vacation, it became a part of us, woven into our lives like a cherished story.
Planning this trip with Thrillophilia had been a breeze. From seamless bookings to a thoughtfully curated itinerary, everything had been perfect. Their local insights had helped us discover hidden gems we might have missed otherwise, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Additionally, our stays were nothing short of spectacular, especially the Treetops Hotel in Shillong.
And as I write this, flipping through our travel journal, I can’t help but smile. Maybe, just maybe, the hills are calling us back already.
