To Celebrating Love: Tarun’s Romantic and Adventurous Sri Lanka Trip with Thrillophilia

“Why Sri Lanka? Take her to Himachal or Uttarakhand … the mountains are really beautiful and peaceful at this time!”

This is what their parents said to them before their honeymoon trip to Sri Lanka. Everyone in the family was in disbelief that they wanted to explore the dense jungles, see wild animals, and try adventurous water sports, that too on their honeymoon.

But how could Tarun explain to them that this was exactly what his dear wife wanted?

Your Wish, My Command
Before their wedding, Tarun asked his better half, “So, where do you want us to go for our honeymoon?”

To his surprise, she replied with glittery eyes, “I want to explore the woods and see the wildlife up close. And yes, can we go underwater? I really want to see how vibrant the underwater world is!”

He was not going to lie; even he thought at first that she was joking. But her glittery eyes kept looking at him for two minutes. Of course, he could not say no and had to give her everything she had asked for.

The next thing he knew, he was on his laptop, searching day and night to find the best destination for their honeymoon. After thorough research, he felt that the ideal destination in their budget would be Sri Lanka. It had everything from jungle safaris to exciting attractions, plenty of adventurous activities and, of course, stunning natural beauty, to make it a little romantic.

Part 1: What all we explored in Sri Lanka

So their trip with Sri Lanka tour packages started from Kandy, which is a gorgeous city completely surrounded by mountains and lush greenery. There they visited a lot of beautiful places like the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, Bahiravokanda Vihara Buddha Statue, Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, and Huluganga Waterfall.

They also explored Nuwara Eliya, also known as ‘The Little England’, and honestly, it became Tarun’s favourite place of all. He could not even imagine describing its beauty in words.

There was greenery everywhere, a pleasant smell of fresh flowers and grass in the air, modest architecture, neat and clean roads, and the most beautiful attractions. This was exactly the kind of place he wanted to go to on a honeymoon.

In Nuwara Eliya, they did sightseeing, boating on Gregory Lake, and nature walks — slow-paced yet sweet things he wanted to enjoy with his wife. They did a tour of places like Hanuman Temple, Ramboda Falls, Seetha Amman Temple, and Victoria Park.

Now, if someone asked him what her favourite destination was, it was definitely Yala. There they visited the famous Yala National Park and spotted so many animals like deer, peacocks, sloth bears, crocodiles, and even a leopard.

Their trip ended with the perfect adrenaline boost in Bentota, the ‘City of Golden Beaches’. Not only did they explore a lot of places, they even tried water sports, but he would come to that later.

Part 2: What all fun activities we did in Sri Lanka

Starting with the first activity, they enjoyed a beautiful Kandyan Dance performance in Kandy. Tarun believed it was the perfect start to their trip and felt as if the locals were welcoming them with open arms.

Their peaceful and scenic boat rides on Gregory Lake and Madhu River were also moments he knew he would cherish forever.

He believed a simple boat ride with one’s partner could be the most romantic experience ever. On one of these boats, they even got to witness the beautiful sunset, making the surroundings and their moments even more magical.

And then… came the actual adventurous and fun part of their trip: the jungle safari in Yala National Park. As he had promised, his wife did get to see crocodiles, leopards, elephants, deer, and various kinds of birds. She was getting excited seeing every animal, while on the other hand, he was praying to God that none of these animals chose them as their next meal.

Just kidding!

But wait, the adventure and his prayers did not end there.

They headed towards Bentota Beach to try snorkelling, as her second demand was to see what the underwater world looked like. Honestly, it was not that scary. In fact, he even enjoyed seeing how vibrant marine life was. Through his snorkel mask, he could see her smiling and trying to catch every fish that crossed her path.

It was all fine till snorkelling. Next, she showed interest in something called ‘Sofa Surfing’. Now, that is a very speedy ride and there are high chances one could fall into deep water. He did say yes, but he was scared to death to try this.

As expected, she was jumping and giggling when he said yes. They sat on the inflatable sofa and he twisted the rope till his forearm for extra grip. As the ride started, he closed his eyes and apparently had a very weird expression on his face, as stated by his wife.

Judging his expressions, she asked, “You are not liking this, are you?”

It was that moment of truth, so he screamed, “I am not really a fan of water.”

She looked surprised, but he was too scared to talk much. So, he continued with eyes shut and an even tighter grip on the rope.

Finally, the extremely thrilling ride was over and they came on land. First, they both looked at each other and laughed like two little kids. Then he asked her, “Are all your wishes fulfilled for this trip?”

She looked at him, smiled, and replied, “Yes, a little too much!”

Right there, every terrifying yet terrific moment and every penny that he spent on this trip — was worth it.

Part 3: A Journey of Love, Laughter, and Little Adventures

As their honeymoon came to an end, Tarun found himself revisiting every moment of their Sri Lanka journey. From quiet lakes and gentle boat rides to heart-racing safaris and underwater adventures, every experience seemed to stitch them a little closer together. He watched his wife smile at the simplest things-

a splash of water, a dancing peacock, a sunset glowing over the ocean…

and he realised how these small joys had shaped their entire trip.

During their final evening in Bentota, they walked along the golden shore with the cool breeze brushing against their faces. The waves rolled in with an easy rhythm, as if nature itself was trying to seal their memories in its embrace. She held his hand and leaned on his shoulder, and he knew that these were the moments he would cherish forever.

On the drive back to Colombo, Tarun whispered to himself that the trip had been everything he hoped a honeymoon could be, filled with love, laughter, surprises, and a little bit of fear that made them laugh even harder afterwards. She looked at him with that same sparkle in her eyes, the one that had asked for forests, wildlife, and the underwater world, and said, “This was perfect.”

For Tarun, that single sentence made every plan, every adventure, and every scary sofa-surfing moment truly worth it.

Sri Lanka had given them more than a honeymoon.

It had given them a story they would tell for the rest of their lives.
