From Oslo, with Love: Sonam’s Scandinavia Tour with Thrillophilia
The sky above them glowed in hues of green and purple, the shimmering Northern Lights dancing like a dream. Sonam stood there, her heart racing, as she held his hand tight. “I’ve waited so long for this,” she whispered, her voice crackling in the air. “I’ve waited for you, for us.”
In the dim light of the aurora, his eyes sparkled. His gaze was fixed on her, a mixture of complete disbelief and wonder on his face. “Sonam... are you...?” His voice faltered, as if he couldn’t believe it was happening.
“Yes,” Sonam smiled softly, her fingers brushing against the ring she held behind her back. "Yes, this is real." With a swift motion, she pulled out the ring, her breath shaky. "I love you, Aarav. Will you marry me?"
Aarav's face froze for a moment. He blinked, his breath escaping in little clouds of fog. The world seemed to slow down. They were standing in the heart of Norway, under a sky that was full of magic, and Sonam had just proposed to him. After two and a half long years of distance, their reunion under the Northern Lights had turned into the most romantic moment of his life.
As the sky shimmered above them, their hearts beat together in perfect sync. “Yes,” he said, “Yes, I will. I’ve been waiting for this moment.
A hush fell between them as the Northern Lights danced brighter, almost as if they were celebrating their love. Sonam’s heart swelled with happiness, for it was a moment she had dreamed about for so long.
Back to where it began…
Two and a half years earlier, when Sonam had last seen Aarav, the world had seemed so simple. They were inseparable, constantly texting, calling, and dreaming of a future together. But life had its own plans- Aarav moved to Oslo to pursue his master's degree at the University of Oslo, leaving Sonam behind in India.
The distance had been hard on them both. Sonam and Aarav's long-distance love had been tested by time zones and late-night calls, but Sonam was determined to make it work. When she got a one-month remote work opportunity, she saw the perfect chance for a surprise visit.
She called John, Aarav's roommate, for help. “I’m coming to Oslo, and I’m going to propose under the Northern Lights,” she said, her excitement palpable.
John was all in. “It’s a big surprise, but I’ve got your back. Let’s make it perfect,” he replied, eager to make Sonam’s dream proposal come true.
She booked a trip through Thrillophilia which covered Oslo, Tromso, Hammerfest and Kirkenes.
Sonam landed in Oslo a few days later, her heart racing faster than ever. She spent the next few days roaming the city, exploring the Akershus Fortress, The Royal Palace, the Vikings Museum and Vigeland Park.
Her itinerary also had a Havila Cruise Ride which took her around the breathtaking Norway’s North Coast. She felt grateful and was mesmerized by the beauty of nature that surrounded her.
Another highlight of her trip was Kirkenes which felt like stepping into a winter dream. As she roamed through the icy streets, she marveled at the Northern Lights’ vivid dance across the sky, knowing she was one step closer to the moment she had dreamed of. With each day, the town’s serene beauty made her even more excited for the surprise she was about to pull off- Aarav would never see it coming.
The Sweet Proposal Under the Northern Lights
When the day finally arrived, they headed to Tromso, and Sonam had already arranged everything through Thrillophilia in advance. They had planned a private dinner in the wilderness, under the shimmering Northern Lights, with a small cozy cabin to keep them warm in the night.
As they drove to their location, Aarav couldn’t stop talking about how much he had missed her. “It’s been so long, Sonam. I can’t believe you’re here.”
When they reached the site, Sonam was in awe. The snow-covered ground stretched out in every direction, the sky a deep midnight blue. The cabin, built with large windows, offered the perfect view of the natural wonder above them. The Northern Lights were already beginning to appear, painting the night sky in colors of green and purple.
Aarav was speechless. “This is... unbelievable.”
Sonam smiled, her heart pounding. “It’s only going to get better.”
They were led to a table set up outside the cabin, surrounded by candles, lanterns, and fur-lined blankets. It looked like a scene from a dream.
They sat down to eat, but Sonam could barely focus on the meal. She waited for the perfect time to tell him how much she loved him, how she had been waiting for this moment for so long.
After dinner, she stood up, her hands trembling with excitement. “Aarav, there’s something I need to tell you.”
Sonam proposed to him, and he said YES!
And just like that, under the Northern Lights, they became engaged, a dream come true after years of separation. Their love story, written in the stars, had finally come full circle and Sonam couldn’t thank Thrillophilia and of course her stars, enough!
