Liberating the Feminine Spirit: Madhumita’s Trip to Meghalaya with Thrillophilia
Meghalaya is one of the gems to explore in northeast India. It is a rather intriguing place where you can find so many tribes, cultures, vibrant dresses, and a livelihood of a different sort altogether.
It is home to the cleanest river in India, the cleanest village in Asia, the wettest place on earth, and so many other wonders. It also showcases some of the most picturesque waterfalls and limestone caves that can catch your interest in one go!
The craze about Meghalaya has not reached far and near just because it is not overly-projected, it still maintains an enigmatic aura that seems to be very exotic. Perhaps, this distance from the mainstream has helped it retain the marvels that it so proudly speaks of!
The smaller crowd, the minimal hustle, and the peaceful ambience made Madhumita too happy to be in Meghalaya. She was a bit sceptical at first when her friend chose this place for their winter vacation, but upon reaching, she was mesmerised!
Meghalaya- The Scotland of the East
Do you know why it is called by this name?
Simply because it resembles the terrains and the landscapes of Scotland. The hills, the rain, the enchanting ambience set by the clouds running hither-thither, all of it adds to the charm of both these places, in quite a similar way.
Madhumita and her friend, both women, were on a journey through Meghalaya. Thrillophilia took up this booking very cautiously, maintaining every aspect of the trip because their safety and well-being were uncompromisable. They were allotted A1 drivers, guides, and top-notch hostels with staunch security. Their transfers were also made private and the sightseeing tours as per their convenience.
It was a wonder that none of them felt any kind of discomfort on the trip, or in their entire travel route in Meghalaya. They had both heard about the decent and respectful nature of the people in the mountains, but it was their first time experiencing it.
This is perhaps another added justification to the name of Scotland of the East- people knew how to respect women.
The Jewels
The two girls had immense fun on the trip travelling to places unknown and rejoicing in the cool moisture-laden winds. They went to the Dawki River and did boat riding there. It was a surreal experience, one side of the river was India and another side was Bangladesh, so technically they were in the no-man’s-zone. The spectacular beauty of the Dawki River (Umngot) was very soothing, they could see the river bottom and the lining of standing cliffs provided a serene touch to the vistas.
On their trek to the Double Decker Bridge, they were so exhausted that it was almost nighttime when they came out of the forest area. Thank God they had their guide with them, otherwise it could have turned into a very reckless event! But they were not scared or anything, they took it as an adventure and laughed all the worries off!
Oh, girls! One should know how to live life like it is the last from them!
An Episode Of Adventures
In whichever cave they went to, they found a small rock with which they would carve some words of wisdom on the rocks outside. Of course not inside the cave, they were careful not to destroy any heritage property or historical marvel. But what will the rocks outside the tourist spots do? They should bear some food for thought, they believed. And so, each and every place they went, they left some mark there.
On the last day of the trip, they saw a magnificent sunrise in the East Khasi Hills while enjoying some tea and breakfast. It was a long day ahead of them, with a hell lot of adventure sports lined up to make the day exciting! They went cliff jumping in the East Khasi Hills, and then they undertook Kayaking and Zip Lining there as well!
The best experience was bathing and swimming in the natural pool of the Krang Suri Waterfalls! It was such a beautiful sight, watching the stream fall from such a great height off the cliff. They both took out their swimming trunks and dived into the pools without a second thought! Such lively spirits are rare to find.
Their guide, Ms. Avandika thought,
“Women must be as free as a swift. If only the world could be more accommodating, understanding, and secure towards them…we would not have to worry about our own daughters and sisters and they could also have fun without a speck of tension”
Their driver, Mr. Tushar, could not agree more.
Women, rise and shine!
It was a great experience for the girls, and for the representatives and members of Thrillophilia as well. It is seldom that women are seen to have unrestricted fun and that is very fulfilling to watch!
So, with more encouragement and a promise of a safe and healthy trip, girls, this goes out to you-
Travel your heart out, dear Phoenix. Let the world watch you soar high with flaming wings.
