Kokalla’s Fairytale Journey to Switzerland with Thrillophilia

Kokalla’s Fairytale Journey to Switzerland with Thrillophilia

Ahhh, Switzerland!

“The land of pristine landscapes, mouth-watering chocolates, and the slow life we always craved—this was going to be the perfect escape for us”, I thought to myself.

However, it wasn’t easy to plan this trip. My wife and I were going back and forth from the Rome and France tour (which was her favourite) and Spain (which was mine).

Each destination had its own unique charm. It was Europe after all and to choose one from them was quite a Sophie’s choice.

But then, as we scrolled through Thrillophilia’s website, there it was—a photo of Switzerland, all lush green and dreamy. It was like the universe had made the choice for us.

We were going to Switzerland; it would be our first international trip.

The Moment Switzerland Stole Our Hearts
It was love at first sight—quite literally.

As our flight was descending, Switzerland greeted us with its rolling green landscapes, like something straight out of a storybook.

We exchanged a glance, a smile that spoke volumes—this was already beyond what we had imagined.

“Is this real life?” she laughed, and I whispered, “Only with you.”

Where We Touched the Sky
If there’s a place where you can feel the world shrinking beneath your feet, it’s Jungfraujoch.

The cogwheel train took us to the top of Europe with the backdrop of breathtaking views of the Swiss Alps. As we climbed higher and higher, the views outside turned from lush green valleys to an icy, white paradise. It’s one of those moments where you’re completely spellbound by nature.

When we finally reached the top, we were at 11,333 feet high—surrounded by the Alps in all their glory.

There was something surreal about standing on the Aletsch Glacier, breathing in the cold, crisp air, and looking out at the world below. For a brief moment, we felt like conquerors of the world, standing atop Europe.

And hands down the best part of this entire journey to the top was the Ice Palace. Walking hand-in-hand through the icy corridors, with sculptures carved out of frozen water, was like stepping into a winter wonderland.

And the Magical Mount Titlis…
Mount Titlis had us wrapped in awe from the moment we boarded the world’s first 360-degree revolving cable car.

You know that feeling when you’re on a rollercoaster and the excitement builds up as you go higher? That’s how it felt, except it was a roller coaster made of glaciers and snow-capped peaks.

By the time we reached the summit, we were greeted by the most breathtaking view of snow-covered valleys, and of course, we had to test our bravery on Europe’s highest suspension bridge.

My wife might have squealed a little (okay, a lot) while crossing that bridge. I, on the other hand, was busy teasing her, “Hold on tight, or I might just let go!”

But the views were worth every heart-pounding second. We took the Ice Flyer chairlift next, feeling like kids on a snowy adventure, gliding over the frozen world below.

A Sweet Detour
Now, let’s talk about the true star of Switzerland—chocolates.

No trip to Switzerland would be complete without a visit to the Lindt Home of Chocolate. Imagine a place where the air smells like cocoa, and the walls are lined with the most decadent chocolate treats. Well, for me it was a dream come true.

We wandered through the museum and learned about the art of chocolate-making, but let’s be real it was the free samples we were after. I may or may not have stuffed a few extra chocolates into my wife’s bag for later.

As we left with our chocolate treasures, my wife, ever the sweet tooth, proclaimed, “We’re officially moving to Switzerland for the chocolates!” And honestly, after that experience, I wasn’t entirely opposed to the idea.

A Train Ride Like No Other
That’s the Glacier Express.

Every view from this train ride was postcard-worthy. We were looking out the window like kids. Our jaws dropped, eyes all sparkly and complete silence.

It was an eight-hour journey of pure, untouched beauty—snow-dusted peaks, quaint villages, and shimmering lakes. As the train snaked through the Swiss Alps, we sat in awe, sipping hot cocoa, and just soaking it all in.

There was something so peaceful about that train ride. It was as if the world slowed down just for us, giving us the chance to catch our breath and enjoy the simple moments.

We shared quiet conversations, staring out at the landscapes that felt too perfect to be real. “This feels like a dream,” she murmured, and I just smiled, “It’s our dream.”

Dancing by the Rhine Falls
One of the most unexpected highlights of our trip was visiting the Rhine Falls. There’s something magical about standing near such a powerful waterfall, feeling the mist on your face, and hearing the roar of the water.

It was exhilarating, almost like nature was putting on a show just for us.

Of course, we couldn’t resist turning the moment into something straight out of a romance novel. With the roar of the falls as our background music, we danced—right there on the viewing platform.

It felt wild and free like the world had forgotten about us, and we were left in this little bubble of joy.

Our last adventure took us to Glacier 3000 and the charming town of Gstaad. If we thought we’d seen it all, Glacier 3000 proved us wrong.

We spent the day hiking through snowy paths, taking in the panoramic views, and marvelling at the beauty that surrounded us.

A special shout-out to Akanksha and her colleagues for their support throughout the trip.

And as I twirled my wife one last time in front of the Alps, I whispered, “This is just the beginning of our adventures.”
