The Tallest of Dreams: Kalpesh’s Family Trip to Dubai with Thrillophilia
It all started with a simple question from my daughter: “Can we go to the place with the really tall building?” She had been fascinated with the Burj Khalifa ever since she saw a picture of it, and for nearly a year, she asked every now and then to go to the place where her precious tall building stood.
As any parent knows, when a five-year-old gets fixated on something, there’s no letting go of it. So, without missing a beat, I booked Thrillophilia’s Dubai package, hoping to turn her dream into reality.
And oh, what a reality it was. What began as a trip to see a “tall building” blossomed into a beautiful through the City of Gold — a journey filled with fun, laughter, and just unexpected surprises at every turn.
From the moment we landed in Dubai, the magic began, and little did we know, it would be the adventure of a lifetime.
A Taste of Dubai’s Charm
As we arrived in Dubai, we were immediately struck by the mix of old-world charm and modern luxury. Our hotel was in Deira, where the air was filled with spice scents and the sparkle of gold at the Gold Souk.
We had been warned that the heat in Dubai can be intense, but nothing quite prepares you for the blinding sunshine and the dry desert air. But despite the scorching temperatures, the allure of the souks was undeniable.
As we wandered through the narrow alleyways of the Gold Souk, my daughter’s eyes sparkled with excitement, her tiny fingers tracing the intricate patterns of gold necklaces.
Then came the desert safari — the highlight of the trip. It was everything we had hoped for and more. The Land Cruiser picked us up from the souk, and as we set off toward the golden dunes, our hearts raced.
The moment the driver hit the gas and we shot up a steep dune, I could hear my daughter’s delighted squeals, even over the roar of the engine. It felt like a roller coaster ride through the desert, and my wife’s grip on the seat tightened with every bump.
By the time we reached the desert camp, we were all covered in a thin layer of sand, but our spirits were high. Camel rides, sandboarding, and belly dancing shows followed.
“This is what we came for,” I thought, as we feasted on a delicious BBQ dinner under the starry sky, the soft hum of music in the background.
Sky-High Adventures and Heart-Stopping Views
If there’s one thing I’ve learned on this trip, it’s that the word “tall” takes on a whole new meaning when you’re standing at the base of the Burj Khalifa. As we ascended to the 124th and 125th floors, it felt like we were travelling to the edge of the world.
My daughter, who usually isn’t a fan of heights, was surprisingly excited. "Papa, look! We’re higher than the clouds!” she shouted, peering out over the city. The panoramic view from the observation deck was nothing short of spectacular.
Dubai sprawled beneath us in every direction, a city of glass and steel, sparkling in the sunlight. We spent a good amount of time enjoying at the view, trying to pick out landmarks and just taking it all in.
Once we had our fill of the Burj Khalifa’s sky-high thrills, we made our way to the Dubai Mall. The mall, as you would expect, was a shopping paradise, but what caught my attention was the Dubai Fountain show. I had seen it in videos, but witnessing it in person was another experience entirely.
Miracles in Bloom
The next day, we went to the Miracle Garden, a place so full of colour and life that it felt almost surreal. It was like stepping into a painting, where every corner revealed a new burst of vibrant flowers.
The fragrance in the air was intoxicating, and we spent hours wandering, stopping to take family photos and marvelling at the intricate flower displays.
But the fun didn’t stop there. After a quick visit to the Dubai Frame, which gave us a stunning view of the city’s skyline, we headed over to the Global Village. The culture, food, and shopping experiences from around the world came together in one place.
There was so much to do — from watching performances to enjoying street food, and the excitement in my daughter’s eyes was contagious. My wife and daughter hopped from one stall to another, her energy as boundless as ever.
The Grand Finale
By the time we got to the final leg of our journey, we were all a little sad that our time in Dubai was coming to an end, but we still had a few amazing experiences left to savour. The View at The Palm was one of those moments. Standing at the 52nd level, we had a bird’s-eye view of the Palm Jumeirah.
My daughter, was eager to explore every corner of the observation deck, trying to spot dolphins in the water and excitedly pointing out boats and yachts.
The highlight of the day was surely the evening yacht ride. As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange and purple, we set sail along Dubai’s stunning coastline. My wife and I stood there, side by side, watching our daughter run around the deck, her laughter mingling with the sounds of the waves.
As the trip came to a close, I couldn’t help but reflect on all that we had seen and done. From thrilling safaris in the desert to wonderful views from the Burj Khalifa, every moment was a piece of a bigger puzzle — a puzzle that, when pieced together, formed the perfect family adventure.
