Making Childhood Dreams Come True! Atul’s Hong Kong Adventure with Thrillophilia
One of the first conversations I had with my partner was about our childhood dreams, and Disneyland topped that list. As kiddish as it sounds, we were unapologetically excited about it. After all, the heart wants what it wants!
We both share a love for travelling and this time, we decided to fulfil that long-cherished dream by booking a trip to Hong Kong with Thrillophilia. With our bags packed and excitement through the roof, we set off on what turned out to be the adventure of a lifetime!
A Night to Remember
The Hong Kong Night City Tour was our grand introduction to this city, and it exceeded all expectations. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the city transformed into a dazzling spectacle of lights. Our guide met us at our hotel, brimming with enthusiasm, and took us out for a night to remember.
We began at Victoria Harbour, where the Symphony of Lights show left us mesmerised. Watching the skyscrapers along the waterfront light up in a synchronised dance to music felt magical, almost like the city itself was welcoming us.
Next up, we hopped aboard a traditional Star Ferry to experience Hong Kong’s iconic skyline from the water. The gentle breeze, the sound of the waves, and the sparkling cityscape made it feel like we were in a movie montage.
Our guide then took us to Temple Street Night Market, a bustling hub of culture and chaos. The aroma of street food was irresistible, so we indulged in local delicacies like dim sum, egg tarts, and stinky tofu- don’t be fooled by the name; it’s delicious! The market was also a shopper’s paradise, filled with trinkets, souvenirs, and more. My partner, the haggler between the two of us, managed to snag a great deal on a jade bracelet for me.
The evening ended with a visit to The Peak. Taking the tram up was an adventure in itself, but the view from the top? Absolutely breathtaking. The city lights stretched endlessly, and we couldn’t stop taking photos.
The Ocean Park Adventure
Ocean Park was one of those places that made us feel like kids all over again. As soon as we entered, the cheerful music, colourful attractions, and the excited chatter of families and friends set the tone for the day.
Our first stop was the Grand Aquarium. Walking through the underwater tunnel was mesmerising- schools of fish, stingrays, and even sharks swam around us in a hypnotic dance. My partner couldn’t resist snapping a million pictures, saying, “This has to be the coolest aquarium ever!”Then came the rides, and oh, what a thrill! The Hair Raiser lived up to its name; it left us screaming with laughter and adrenaline.
Of course, we couldn’t miss the animal encounters. The giant pandas, Ying Ying and Le Le, were the stars of the show, lounging and munching on bamboo as if posing for our cameras.
Living in the Magic of Disneyland
If there’s one word to describe our day at Hong Kong Disneyland, it’s magical. From the moment we walked through the gates, with Mickey and Minnie welcoming us, it felt like stepping into a dream world. My partner and I couldn’t stop grinning- this was something we had talked about for years, and now it was finally happening.
Our first stop was Adventureland, where we hopped on the Jungle River Cruise. The lively guide, paired with the lifelike animatronics, made us laugh and jump in surprise. From there, we wandered into Mystic Manor, which turned out to be my partner’s favourite ride. The blend of music, storytelling, and special effects was simply awe-inspiring.
And then there was Tomorrowland, where we got competitive with Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters and felt the rush on the Hyperspace Mountain roller coaster. We couldn’t believe how time flew- it was already afternoon when we sat down for lunch. Mickey-shaped waffles? Yes, please!
The parades were the heart of the park. Watching our childhood favourites come alive in dazzling costumes was beyond words. My partner couldn’t resist joining the crowd waving at Donald Duck, while I got misty-eyed when Belle and the Beast twirled by.
As the sun set, the park lit up in a symphony of lights and then came the fireworks. Standing in front of the castle, hand in hand, watching the sky burst into colours- it was the perfect ending to the day.
Exploring the Las Vegas of Asia
When we first added Macau to our itinerary, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. But by the end of the day, we were so glad we made the detour- it was a whirlwind of history, culture, and glamour all packed into one.
Our day began with a ferry ride from Hong Kong. The smooth journey offered stunning views of the sea, building up our excitement for what lay ahead. Once we arrived, our guide welcomed us with a cheerful smile, promising a day of diverse experiences.
The first stop was the Ruins of St. Paul’s. Standing amidst the remnants of this 17th-century church, with its intricate stone carvings, felt like stepping into a history book. Our guide shared stories about Macau’s Portuguese heritage, which had us captivated. After exploring Senado Square and its charming streets, we couldn’t resist trying some local egg tarts- warm, flaky, and absolutely heavenly.
By evening, the city transformed. The glittering lights of the casinos and the nightlife painted Macau in a whole new light. We ended our day with a traditional Portuguese dinner- feasting on bacalhau and caldo verde- before catching the ferry back to Hong Kong.
