To Love Is to Live- Ashish’s Thailand Trip Review with Thrillophilia

And splash!

Down we went into the deep blue sea.

I looked up and saw the bubbles from our oxygen pipe rise up the water in bubbles.

I looked down and saw the coral reefs covering the sea bed like a quilt of rainbow rocks.

Finally, I looked at my partner, she was looking at the seabed like a curious little child.

And at that moment, I felt so much in love, happily, irrevocably, and intensely.

This trip was one of the best I had in my whole life, and to experience it all with her was the best decision I had ever made.
.
.
.
Well, the trip had a bang-on beginning.

We were just about to miss our flight due to a traffic jam (so much for a dramatic vacation) but to think of all the weeks we had spent planning on our outfits and our to-do and to-eat lists, making it to the airport was mandatory.

We reached an hour before the departure time, and with the check-in process and passport verification, we rushed a lot. Running across the aisles and conveying our delay to the security personnel, we finally made it to the flight just in time for the takeoff.

People scorned and shook their heads in disappointment, but it meant nothing to us. The fact that we were finally on the flight, heading to Thailand, was what mattered the most.

Bangkok Buzz

At first, it was hard to grasp that the visibility was so clear and the people were so friendly because our life in India seemed to be clouded with smoke and a lot of people.

But eventually, when the Thai vibes got to our bones, our nerves came alive with excitement!

The very first night of our trip was all to us, no plans, no itineraries of Thrillophilia to follow. It was just us in Bangkok, and the night was young enough to gulp down some drinks and much on some delectable street food in the Chatuchak Weekend Market.

The first day of our Bangkok sightseeing tour left us with gaping mouths and arched eyebrows- yes, the streets, temples, and monasteries were simply awe-striking! The city tour took us to the Gems Gallery- the first establishment of Jewellery and gemstones in Thailand. Then we went to the Grand Palace and Wat Arun before setting off for a romantic Cruise on the Chao Phraya River.

It was a grand setting, with the boat gliding over the river and offering the sparkling cityscape of Bangkok. We were offered starters, followed by the main course and even desserts! It was simply amazing, and also quite a romantic journey!

But the highlight of the day was when we were returning to our hotel, we came across a singer who was playing a Khlui and a Taphon and singing some folk songs. We stood there listening to him, and although we could not understand a word of what he was saying, we could feel his music touch our hearts.

Now, for the fun part

Our visit to Phuket was crazy good. We went there from Krabi via a ferry, and the journey was very relaxing. We soaked in the beach sun and the blue water all around us seemed to provide us with a feeling of solace.

There were islands situated far away, to which we pointed our fingers and made up some random stories and assumptions, almost, as if playing a game of ‘absurd imaginations’.

That night we went to Patong Beach to attend its famous parties, and the rest of the night was a blur. All I remember was carrying my partner back to the hotel in my arms, at 6 in the morning!

The next day was our Phi Phi Island tour day.

Getting all decked up to watch the sea mountains in all their glamour and beauty, we headed out for the boat ride. The sun was bright, and the cool winds from the sea made us crave a dip in the waters. However, we had to be patient as our snorkelling and swimming sessions were scheduled in the Maya Islands.

So, after taking a tour of the Phi Phi islands, we headed to Maya Island by speed boat.  There is a very subtle difference, I realised that day, between a ferry and a speedboat- the latter is 10 times more adventurous and faster.

Also, the Viking Caves tour and the Monkey Island visit filled us up with peace and thrill at the same time…it was kind of overwhelming, but what is the purpose of travelling so far if it does not transform something within you?

On this note, I am reminded of our Krabi tour- the Phra Nang Cave Beach- one of the four islands included in Thrillophilia’s itinerary. It was the same overwhelming feeling to watch the sun go down behind the blue line of the Andaman Sea, after a long day of exploring limestone caves and white sand beaches.

It appeared to come straight out of a dream, long forgotten, yet tearing through the heart with the same intensity.

It was peaceful, yet heavy.

The Finest for the Finesse

Now, to speak of the highlight, I never expected the leisure days to have a greater impact than planned days. And to spend them all with my partner was much more than just elation, it seemed to be the right way to enjoy this trip.

Coming back to Phuket, our last night was spent raising our toasts to Fanstsea’s fantastic show! The lively performances and the warm atmosphere of the place left us speechless! We enjoyed it so much as if it were the end of the world.

We met people from all over the world there, mostly tourists, some businessmen and some volunteers. And sharing the last night of our Thailand trip with total strangers, bonding over laughter and fun, was perhaps the best ending we could give to this picture-perfect trip!

Me and my partner both were obsessed over the pictures for weeks after coming back, earning to go for another trip soon!

Hopefully, this time we will catch the flight sooner, and hopefully, this time it will be for Vietnam!
