A Honeymoon in the Maldives: Suravi & Nasir’s Story
When we first started planning our honeymoon, both of us wanted something more than just a regular vacation. At 42, I (Suravi) had already travelled to a fair share of busy cities and mountain getaways, while Nasir, at 36, was more of an adventure seeker who loved the outdoors. The Maldives felt like a perfect middle ground for us, with romance, relaxation, and enough adventure to keep us both happy. What we did not expect was just how deeply the trip would leave its mark on us.
The moment we landed at Velana International Airport, there was already a sense of slowing down. No rush, no chaos, just warm sea air and a smiling crew waiting to whisk us away. The speedboat ride to our resort, NOOE Maldives Kunaavashi, was nothing short of magical. The ocean seemed to shift colours every few minutes, moving from deep sapphire to clear turquoise, and with each wave it felt like we were leaving the noise of our everyday lives behind. Knowing that Thrillophilia had already taken care of all the bookings made everything stress free. We did not have to think about transfers, check-ins, or arrangements. Everything simply fell into place, which gave us the freedom to enjoy the journey from the very first moment.
When we arrived, the welcome was not just professional, but it felt warm and genuine. The staff greeted us as if they had been waiting just for us. Walking into our beach villa, we instantly felt at home. The room had an understated elegance with soft tones, wide windows opening to the sea, and an inviting patio. The sound of waves just a few feet away felt like nature’s own background music.
That first evening set the tone for our entire trip. After a quick nap to recover from the journey, we headed to Th·āri Spa. I opted for the Mandara Massage, while Nasir chose the Warm Stone Massage. I cannot put into words how healing that experience was. The therapist seemed to know exactly where the tension sat in my body, and with each movement I felt myself becoming lighter. Nasir, who is not usually one for spas, admitted afterward that it was one of the most relaxing things he had ever done. We ended the evening with dinner at Flame, and we devoured everything.
The next day brought adventure. We had signed up for water sports, and this was Nasir’s dream day. He had always wanted to scuba dive, and while I was hesitant, I decided to give snorkelling a try. The first time I dipped my head under the water, I almost forgot to breathe. The world beneath was so alive and so different. Colourful fishes darting around, corals standing tall like underwater sculptures, and the clarity of the water making everything seem surreal. Nasir came back from his dive grinning like a child, full of stories about spotting curious little reef sharks and vibrant marine life. Later, we did an underwater photography session together. Having those moments captured, the laughter, the awe on our faces, the two of us holding hands underwater, felt like creating memories we could revisit again and again. Dinner at Washoku that night was another highlight. Japanese flavours in such a setting somehow felt even more refined. The sushi was fresh beyond comparison, and the ambience was intimate, perfect for a honeymoon evening.
On our third day, we moved to the duplex overwater villa, and that shift felt like stepping into another world. Waking up surrounded entirely by the sea, with the soft rocking of waves beneath our villa, was unlike anything we had experienced before. We spent a good part of the morning just sitting on the deck, sipping coffee, and watching the horizon. That simple act, with no rush and no agenda, might be one of my favourite parts of the trip.
Later in the day, we joined a shark excursion. The thought of being in the water with these creatures would have terrified me before, but the guides were reassuring and experienced, which made me feel safe. Being in their presence was more humbling than frightening. Nasir loved every second of it, calling it the most exhilarating experience of the trip. We ended the evening with dinner at Iru Restaurant, where the variety of global dishes reminded us how vast the world is, yet here we were on this small island, tasting flavours from everywhere.
Beyond the scheduled experiences, what stood out to us was the atmosphere created by the resort itself. The ambience was thoughtful, with decor that blended elegance and warmth, comfortable seating in every corner, and even the lighting seemed designed to soothe. The background music was subtle, never intrusive, but always enhancing the mood.
The food deserves another mention, every meal felt crafted, not just cooked. A small detail we both appreciated was how the staff noticed our preferences and remembered them for the next meal.
The hospitality overall left us speechless. From the very beginning, the staff went beyond the expected. They were not only attentive but also genuinely warm. Sagar, who played DJ one evening, turned an ordinary night into a celebration. We laughed, danced, and felt like part of a bigger family. Wang surprised us with a honeymoon cake that was both delicious and beautifully decorated. These personal touches elevated the trip from being simply luxurious to being heartfelt.
Of course, no experience is perfect. If we had to mention one small drawback, it would be the poolside chairs. They could have been better maintained, with more frequent cleaning. It was a minor issue, but when everything else felt flawless, it stood out a little. Still, it did not take away from the overall joy of our stay.
On the final day, as we boarded the speed boat back to the airport, I found myself already nostalgic. Four days had gone by quickly, yet they felt rich and full. For both of us, this honeymoon was not just about checking off activities. It was about slowing down, connecting with each other, and letting ourselves be cared for in a way that daily life rarely allows. Thrillophilia had promised us a seamless and memorable honeymoon, and looking back, I can say it delivered exactly that.
Looking back, what stays with me is not just the beauty of the Maldives, though it is undeniable. It is the combination of thoughtful hospitality, meaningful experiences, and the quiet moments of togetherness. For us, this trip was not just a honeymoon. It was the beginning of a new chapter, wrapped in the sound of waves, the warmth of people, and the magic of a place that feels like paradise.
